Adult acne is quite a common phenomenon. In fact, you may well find a friend or acquaintance who is suffering from it. Records say that in the United States alone, there are 40 million people affected with this skin disorder. In fact, acne can affect a person aging anywhere between 12 and 25 years. The number of women affected with the adult acne is increasing even though they have not encountered it in their teenage.

However, one of the greatest problems with the acnes is that there is not any complete cure from the acne. There are thousands of different medicines available in the market, but most of them curb acne temporarily. Still, people are largely deceived by the products and the claims of the manufacturers that the product is the ultimate means to cure acne.

What is the ideal solution then? The same concern is also relevant to the adult acne. Certainly, you just can not give up hope and wait for the natural cure. After all, the greatest disappointment with the acne is that it affects the look. Normally, the acnes do not have any malignant effect on the body. Yet, they are a major concern since every one of us want to look good. Consequently, a person affected with acne feels more frustrated and insecure than the young ones as the self esteem increases with time. Also, the approach of the society changes with time. The teens are supposed to have acnes on their face; there is nothing strange about it. However, the story is different when an adult grow acnes in the face.

Often, there is a misconception that adults who are suffering from the acnes do not wash their face properly. So, the society often assumes them to be dirty. However, just as overweight is not caused by eating sumptuously, acnes too, can be resulted from different factors like hormonal changes and even heredity.

However, there are two major approaches that can be taken when an adult is suffering from acnes. The first one is off course to accept and ignore the entire issue, while the other is take some actions against it. If you have chosen the second one, there is good news for you. Though the acnes can not be cured completely, they can be significantly controlled.

Essentially, acne is caused by the irregularities of the oil glands under the hair follicles. There are different types of acnes and they are categorized according to the severity. Each one is different and therefore, an effective treatment for one person may not be that effective for another. So, the best way to treat the adult acne is to visit the dermatologist.

However, as precautions, you should not pick or squeeze the acnes as that can result in further complexities. Also, avoid the sunlight as much as you can. Though there are controversies over the effect of food on acne, drinking a lot of water can be very useful. Avoid coffee and junk foods and replace them with fruits and vegetables. Don’t scrub the face assuming that dirt leads to acne. This can make the situation worse. Above all, avoid the over the counter medicines that can lead to severe side effects including heart risks, hypertension, autoimmune disease, jaundice and other liver diseases.
